HECTOR & His Powerband
60v-Taiteilijajuhlan 2026 ETKOT
Hector, a cornerstone of Finnish popular music, began his solo career with the single “Palkkasoturi” released in January 1966. The high school boy’s debut single topped the Finnish charts and began a distinguished career that has spanned six decades.
Hector, who has released numerous albums since the early 1970s, is best known for his songs such as Ake, Make, Pera ja mä, Asfalttiprinssi, Ei mittään, Jos sä tahdot niin, Juodaan viinaa, Kuunnellaan vaan taivasta, Lumi teki enkelin eteisen, Mandoliniimies, Nostalgia and Yhtenä iltana.
Hector’s output is known for its strong lyrics and opinionated themes, and its range of styles ranges from rock and folk to progressive expression. His poetic and thought-provoking lyrics have inspired several generations, and many of his songs have become an established part of Finnish cultural heritage. In addition to his own songs, Hector has also composed and subtitled songs for numerous leading Finnish artists.
Hector, who has received several gold and platinum albums, has also received numerous other recognitions and awards. He has been awarded, among others, four Emmas, the State Music Prize, the Reino Helismaa and Juha Vainio awards, and the Pro Finlandia medal. In addition, he was awarded the Commander’s Order of the Finnish Lion in 2024. Yle’s Asfalttiprinssin tie, a documentary about Hector’s life, released at the end of last year, quickly found a large audience.
